Amazing Race Blog #7

The name of the place I'm going is Maiquetia, Caracas, South America. The capital is Brasilia. Valencia and Maracay border the city. The North Atlantic Ocean borders the city. The GPS coordinates of Maiquetia is 10° 36' 0" North, 66° 57' 0" West. The climate of Maiquetia is about 90˚F during the day and at night it is about 85˚F. It is very nice here. There are very nice beeches and the Ocean looks good and it is warm. I haven't found anything stating the history of this place. The location looks like a place for relaxation and could be a place for attracting tourists. That is what makes this place important. From the last place it is 10,614 miles. I had to take two flights to get to this place. The total cost of my trip was $17,310.59. I hope I can make up that money. I think that this trip was good for me and I feel really good about that. I also think that I got a good visual of what other kind of people are out there and that there are very cool different cultures. My family is very happy for me to get back safely and I can't wait to do that again if I get the chance to.

Amazing Race Blog Entry #6

My location is Masbate City, Masbate, Philippines. Manila is the capital of the Philippines. No countries border the Philippines. The North Pacific Ocean and some of the Indian Ocean border the Philippines. The GPS coordinates of Masbate City, Masbate, Philippines is 13.617°N 123.167°E. The climate today is 82˚F. It is really nice. My location looks nice and well it is the Philippines so it looks very nice and here a little tropical like. The history of Masbate City is it is well one of the first cities in the Philippines. The location is important because people say that it gives them health advantages. 6,671 miles is how far this location is to my last location. I flew again to this location. The cost was $1,678.86. I had missed my first flight but I got lucky and there was another one that was cheaper. The biggest difference from my last location is that this is a newer city than Napoli, Italy.

Amazing Race Blog Entry #5

The location I am visiting is Napoli, Italy. The capital is Rome. Rome and Bari border the country. The Mediterranean Sea is the only body of water that borders Napoli. The GPS coordinates of Napoli, Italy is:
Latitude: 40° 50'North
Longitude: 14° 14'East
The climate of my location this time of year is 73˚F. My location looks a little older, and kinda like Rome but is a little less urban. There is more country side. The history of Napoli is not as great as Rome's but it has some good history. Like it was part of the Roman empire. It is also a sort of new place. The location is important because it is a big part in trading routes. The distance from the last location is 5113 miles. I flew to this location and thankfully there were no layovers. The cost was $1998.76 for the car, plane, and hotel. My travels are good but I hope to get to my family soon.

The name of the place that I am visiting is Sandbar, Cape Town. It is in South Africa. One of the three capitals is right here in Cape Town. The countries that border South Africa are North Africa. The bodies of water that border South Africa are South Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. The GPS coordinates of Sandbar, Cape Town, South Africa is 33˚,55 S', 18˚, 22 E'. The climate of my location is about 63˚ F right now. My location looks like an urban sea port. It has some pretty tall buildings. The history of this place well there is no history really that I can find. This location is important because like the last location I was at was big because it is a sea port and makes trade routes. From my last distance it is 7,448 miles. I flew to my third location then drove to actually get there. The price of the whole trip to my location was $1,227.77. I did not have any troubles getting to my location. It is more urban than the last placed I visited.

Amazing Race #3

I am visiting Australia. Port Macquarie is where I have found another Sandbar. The capital is Tamworth. No countries border the city but there are a lot of cities around it. The South Pacific Ocean is the only body of water that borders Port Macquarie. The GPS coordinates of my location are 41º56’S 148º12’E. The climate of my location is warm about 80˚ to 95˚. My location looks kinda laid back and nice. You can see the ocean and that makes in nicer. There is no history besides that you can take cruises were you can see some places were Captain Cook took hold of. The location is important because there are ports their which can bring and deliver goods. The distance between my last location and this location is 7,764.32 miles. That is really far! I took a plane and flew down to Australia. The cost of the plane trip was $1405.20.

Amazing Race Blog Entry 2

I am at the Coyote Butte right now in Oregon. The capital of Oregon is Salem and the states that border this country are Washington, Idaho California, and Nevada. The Pacific Ocean borders the left side of Oregon. The GPS coordinates of the Coyote Butte are N3659.764 W11200.365. The climate of Oregon is about 60˚ so it is a nice temperature. My location looks a bit like a tunnel with the top off. It also kind of looks like a chocolate vanilla swirl. The history of the coyote buttes is somewhat odd. Their are somethings that are considered to be basically magical but that is it. The location that I am at isn't really too important but it is important in my search to find 6 locations in 6 different continents.

Journal Entry Aron Smestad 3/20/2009

Dear Journal,
There is something terrible that you do not know about. It is called Hunger. It, at its own wish, will hurt anything. It is probably the most ruthless thing that man-kind may know. Just knowing that it takes about one child away every 6.1 seconds is hard to know. It also leaves 1 out of 8 children at night hungry. It has made almost one billion across the world hungry.
What can be done? That is what I think about. The struggle that so many have to deal with. How can they do it? What keeps them going? Maybe it is that one day they wont have to deal with hunger? Maybe just like me they know that 100 million of them could be saved by just the world focusing on them and not war. I hope they do know.
When that day comes, I hope everyone will see right. Hunger to man is a much greater threat than war and only if more than one could see that. So journal I have told you what I and others know and think about hunger. Someday we will be rid of this threat and then and only then will no one be hungry.

Medieval Occupation Entry 5

My life compared to the life of the person I chose is very different. First my mom has not run out on me and I have a lot of siblings. I am also not so strict on the culture like the medieval times. Our Government is also way way different. We don't have kings and Queens like my character. We have our President and we get to vote on what we want and not what our king wants. And last we don't have jousting we have baseball, football, basketball, etc!

Medieval Occupation Entry 4

Today we had an event. It was jousting. Although we could not see all the best we heard everything that went on. My friends were there including everyone else. We had, I think, the whole kingdom there. It happened in an open green field close to my house. It started at about half an hour after lunch. I am surprised that our lord the King wanted to have such an exciting tournament at this time. I think what happened in the joust was Sir Tink and Sir Danish were in the final and Sir Danish's horse stumbled and did not have a fast start so he was knocked off. So that means that Sir Tink won. I mean he was the underdog and no one likes him. I do not know if I like him. Sir Tink got more land from the king and a bigger role in the Army. I'd say he is about the luckiest man in the world.

Medieval Occupation Entry 3

Hello this is Billy Parcher. Since I never had much take to tell who my friends were I am going to tell you today. The friends I have are Richard Wash III, Zadok Bone and last Zeus Smith. I have a lot of other friends but these are the best ones I have. Which reminds me I have to go to one of their houses for a birthday. I will have to cross all that hilly land just to get there. That is all there is these days just hills every where but the market. Well I must eat lunch now which is some porridge with a little meat my dad could get from the market. Ah and don't forget the beer! Well this is my favorite meal!

Medieval Occupation Entry 2

Hey this is Billy Parcher. Here are some of the things about our government. The government in this time is monarchy. The Kingship right now is King Henry II and his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine. I say he is an alright king My Father doesn't like and for this one reason. A law that my father hates (could say the same for myself) is the law which doesn't a low anyone to make "adulterine castles". My Father thinks this is is because King Henry II doesn't want anyone to challenge or equal the kingship. A rule that my father does agree with is if anyone he made sure that sheriffs, who had fallen under the domination of locals be made sure that they knew that they were royal officials. I know this is way off topic but sometimes I wonder what religion we are. My Father always just blows the question off but I want to know. I do have a couple of ideas. We are either Christian, Catholic, or we don't have a religion at all. Well back to our kingship. I do not think that the peasants are mad anymore but that is all.

Medieval Occupation Entry 1

My name is Billy Parcher. I am working to become a parchmenter. My father, Zephyrus Parcher, is a parchmenter. I am the only child and my mother is gone somewhere. We don't have the money to afford college so I am straight to work. I am 14 years of age. I live in England in a small little house in the market. My house is small but better than those low lives in the fields. It is like every other house in our area it is made out of a fine mud and the roof is great straw. My job right now is to go to the market and buy all the things we need to make parchment and also get us food. I also need to make sure the fire is tended to because my Father is a busy man nowadays. When I have free time I like to go into the market and find some boys my age and play a game of tag. But my father says it is time to stop playing foolish games.

Memior

My First Game at Yankee Stadium

A
red, white, and blue flag appeared in the distance followed by two
more: one on each side of the first flag. That was when I saw a
white round shape appear. Blue bold letters appeared saying “Yankee
Stadium”. I know it sounds like a while, but this happened
fast. I realized right then and there it was Yankee Stadium!! I
told my dad even though it was him who told me to look that way. I
was overloaded with joy by the sight. The ride went fast and when we
got there I remembered how it all happened.

We
left around 1:00pm from my grandparents house in Connecticut to try
and get to the game early and get autographs from some of the
players. He also had told me that we would be the only ones going.
Now this meant a lot for me because I live with 5 brothers and
sisters. We talked the whole way there about how exciting it would
be if we could get Derek Jeter to sign the baseball I had brought.
We also talked about who might win and the conversation would always
come back to Derek Jeter. I don't know how, or even why, we always
came back to Derek Jeter.

When
we were close to the stadium my dad told me and I looked all over for
it. My dad said it would be coming up in the next mile or so. So I
kept my eyes pealed until I saw what I saw in every picture I saw at
home. A white oval building began to appear in the distance.
Flags, one of them red, white, and blue, began to take form. The
blue bold letters appeared, followed by the rest of Yankee Stadium.
The sounds around the stadium were loud. There were subway stations,
cars and railroads too. I must have screamed with joy. I don't
remember taking my eyes off it until it was out of sight once more.
That meant that we had gone into a parking space. I remember it all
very clearly. We parked and got out of the car. There was a man
that came over to my dad. He was trying to get him to buy tickets.
We didn't have any tickets so we had no choice but to buy the tickets
from him. They were like $357 just for us two. My dad only told me
they were a lot of money so that is what I guessed.

The
moment we were out of the parking area, I remember how small I felt
just looking at the outside of the stadium. There were concession
stands, people walking, bargaining, and a lot of Yankee jerseys. I
asked my dad to buy me a Jeter jersey, but those were all sold out.
So he bought me an A-Rod jersey instead. I put it on immediately.
We got in line for getting into the stadium. They checked our
pockets to make sure we had nothing that could be used as a weapon.
We were 'clear' as they said. So we went into the stadium. Being
my first time, I don't remember what I said. I only felt this
feeling that it was a dream-come-true.

My
dad then pulled me aside to tell me that I needed to hold his hand so
we wouldn't get separated. I just thought, “Whatever”.
My dad and I walked for long enough to feel like it was a lifetime.
He brought me right behind home plate. I couldn't believe how huge
the stadium was. The grass was greener than any other grass and the
dirt was golden. I stood there taking in all of it and when I was
done looking we left. In a few minutes
we arrived at our seats and waited for the game to start. We
were watching hitting practice and infield practice. By the time the
game started we had drinks that must have been twice the size of my
head. We also had a pretzel each.

The
only problem throughout the game was that we were sitting by Angel
fans and the Yankees lost. It was my first game so it was the best
game yet. It was a close game with the final score being 4-3. I
will never forget that first game and couldn't wait for more to come.
On the way back we listened to the post-game on the radio. It was
not interesting for me to listen to but my dad was into it. It
felt like a short drive back and I guess that was because I couldn't
wait to share my time with everyone.
