My First Game at Yankee Stadium

A
red, white, and blue flag appeared in the distance followed by two
more: one on each side of the first flag. That was when I saw a
white round shape appear. Blue bold letters appeared saying “Yankee
Stadium”. I know it sounds like a while, but this happened
fast. I realized right then and there it was Yankee Stadium!! I
told my dad even though it was him who told me to look that way. I
was overloaded with joy by the sight. The ride went fast and when we
got there I remembered how it all happened.

We
left around 1:00pm from my grandparents house in Connecticut to try
and get to the game early and get autographs from some of the
players. He also had told me that we would be the only ones going.
Now this meant a lot for me because I live with 5 brothers and
sisters. We talked the whole way there about how exciting it would
be if we could get Derek Jeter to sign the baseball I had brought.
We also talked about who might win and the conversation would always
come back to Derek Jeter. I don't know how, or even why, we always
came back to Derek Jeter.

When
we were close to the stadium my dad told me and I looked all over for
it. My dad said it would be coming up in the next mile or so. So I
kept my eyes pealed until I saw what I saw in every picture I saw at
home. A white oval building began to appear in the distance.
Flags, one of them red, white, and blue, began to take form. The
blue bold letters appeared, followed by the rest of Yankee Stadium.
The sounds around the stadium were loud. There were subway stations,
cars and railroads too. I must have screamed with joy. I don't
remember taking my eyes off it until it was out of sight once more.
That meant that we had gone into a parking space. I remember it all
very clearly. We parked and got out of the car. There was a man
that came over to my dad. He was trying to get him to buy tickets.
We didn't have any tickets so we had no choice but to buy the tickets
from him. They were like $357 just for us two. My dad only told me
they were a lot of money so that is what I guessed.

The
moment we were out of the parking area, I remember how small I felt
just looking at the outside of the stadium. There were concession
stands, people walking, bargaining, and a lot of Yankee jerseys. I
asked my dad to buy me a Jeter jersey, but those were all sold out.
So he bought me an A-Rod jersey instead. I put it on immediately.
We got in line for getting into the stadium. They checked our
pockets to make sure we had nothing that could be used as a weapon.
We were 'clear' as they said. So we went into the stadium. Being
my first time, I don't remember what I said. I only felt this
feeling that it was a dream-come-true.

My
dad then pulled me aside to tell me that I needed to hold his hand so
we wouldn't get separated. I just thought, “Whatever”.
My dad and I walked for long enough to feel like it was a lifetime.
He brought me right behind home plate. I couldn't believe how huge
the stadium was. The grass was greener than any other grass and the
dirt was golden. I stood there taking in all of it and when I was
done looking we left. In a few minutes
we arrived at our seats and waited for the game to start. We
were watching hitting practice and infield practice. By the time the
game started we had drinks that must have been twice the size of my
head. We also had a pretzel each.

The
only problem throughout the game was that we were sitting by Angel
fans and the Yankees lost. It was my first game so it was the best
game yet. It was a close game with the final score being 4-3. I
will never forget that first game and couldn't wait for more to come.
On the way back we listened to the post-game on the radio. It was
not interesting for me to listen to but my dad was into it. It
felt like a short drive back and I guess that was because I couldn't
wait to share my time with everyone.
